EMERALD FEATURE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – TUESDAY 6TH MAY 2025
The first of 4 feature sales to be held in Emerald 2025, yielded 1 head shy of 5000. Most were trucked from the more immediate area and quality, and presentation was good with the first of the new season weaners really showing some thump. Steers produced the greatest numbers with a yarding of 2953 head, there were 2013 heifers and a cup full of mickies rounded out the numbers.
The additional numbers bought buyers from further afield with the feedlot sector well represented. Steers over 500kg peaked at 373c to average 333c, Steers 400-500kg topped at 386c to average 352c, Steers 350-400kg with buyer competition from grain, grass and backgrounders sold to 426c to average 348c. Heifers over 400kg in small numbers sold to a top of 346c to average 315c and heifers 350-400kg made to 335c to average 304c.
There was a solid field of buyers for steers heading back to grass, however as we see more and more buyers rewarded the better-quality pens, this notable even within individual breeds. Steers 280-350kg in one of the biggest classes for the day rose to a high of 468c to average 380c, Steers 200-280kg in fair numbers topped at 468c to average 396c, Steers under 200kg in small numbers peaked at 426c to average 365c. Heifers 280-350kg produced the greatest individual class numbers for the day rising 356c to average 306c, heifers 200-280kg in good numbers made to 362c to average a healthy 314c, heifers under 200kg in lesser numbers making to 344c with a quality related average of 263c.
